How the Service WorksWE CAN HELPLawyer Referral Service of Santa Cruz County is the only local non-profit service certified by the State Bar of California, and which meets the American Bar Association Standards for a referral service.WHAT WE DOOur friendly, well-trained legal interviewers can provide you with a consultation for up to one 1/2 hour with an attorney who is pre-screened and experienced in the type of law you need. The lawyer volunteers his or her time for the initial meeting.If you live outside the Santa Cruz County area, we can arrange a phone consultation with a lawyer experienced in the type of law you need. An administrative fee is charged to your credit card. When finances are a consideration, we do offer a Fee Waiver Program to those persons who live in Santa Cruz County and who meet the financial qualifications. (A limited number of waivers are available.) COSTA minimal administration fee of $40 is charged to support our non-profit service. The fee is paid at the time of your appointment.HIRING AN ATTORNEYIf you want to retain the services of the lawyer beyond the initial consultation those financial arrangements are made between you and the lawyer. LRS is not involved in that process.ATTORNEY QUALIFICATIONSTo work with our service a lawyer must meet the Santa Cruz County Bar Association, The State Bar of California and American Bar Association legal and ethical standards.In order to give legal advice:
CLIENT SURVEYAfter you book an appointment, we will mail you an "Evaluation Form" asking you how you liked our service and the services of the lawyer we referred you to. Please take the time to fill out the form and mail it back to us (we provide prepaid postage). |
